MHEA ACTIVITIES
Among the many advantages of membership in the Memphis-area Home Education Association are the many opportunities to participate in MHEA sponsored activities throughout the year.
These activities are designed to provide school level competition for MHEA Members. Most activities are organized by member support groups and are sponsored by area organizations and businesses and allow for advancement to the local, state, and national competitions.
These events include:
- MHEA Art Contest-usually held in August. Winners advance to the Mid-South Fair Art Competition.
- MHEA Geography Bee-held in November-December , is sponsored by the National Geographic Society and allows for advancement to state and national competitions.
- MHEA Spelling Bee-held in October is sponsored by The Commercial Appeal & Scripps-Howard and allows for advancement to the county, state and national competitions.
- DAR Essay ContestSponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution this is held in the Fall with participants competing with entrants on the national level.
- MHEA Science Fair-held in February allows advancement to the Memphis/Shelby County Science Fair and the Shelby County Science and Engineering Fair.
- MHEA Vision Screening-Allows the opportunity for vision screening by area pediatric ophthalmologist-Dr. Carl Flinn
- MHEA Math League Contest-held in March-April-participant’s scores are compared to other students on the national level

Field Day-organized by the MHEA Honor Society and is held in late April at the Buckhead Creek Facility
- MHEA Used Book Sale-Held in late May and offers an opportunity to buy & sell used books & curriculum.
- MHEA Kindergarten Graduation-held in late May.
